Yep. The baby in the crib says it all. So..So important to get them when they are as young as possible. I started following ASU (well,ASC then) in elementary school when I also followed North Phx HS as I was headed there in 1948. My other favorite school was St. Marys (RC of course) and their top coach, Ed Doherty. His football team there was one of the best in the state.

Doherty took over the Devils in 1947 and brought them from a previous 2 yr drought (2-8 & 2-7-2) to a 4-7 season. Followed by a 5-5, 7-3, and 9-2. He did a good job recruiting local state talent. Especially the Valley and some gems from the mining communities in SE AZ. Of course the big talent on the team was Whizzer White who was a local player from Mesa and known throughout the state.

Our family went to a few games at the old stadium every yr and down to Tucson to see them beat the UofA in White's final season. I don't know when it started but they had something like The Knot Hole Gang which were kids who sat in a section of the bleachers. Someone who knows more about this can correct me. But the idea to get the kids into ASU sports is So...So....important.

PS. I recall Kush being awkward at interviews when he started coaching. But he realized the importance of connecting with the local media got to be very good at it. Used to do a weekly TV show during football season I believe.
