It was a big stadium. Cement structure on 1 side and bleachers on the other as I recall. When I was at North Hi the Turkey Day game between the big Phx rivals (North Hi & Phoenix Union) was the big game of the year and there would be a big crowd at Montgomery (Monkey Stadium we called it) Stadium. This would be the late 40's/early 50's.
Phoenix Union, St. Mary's, & Carver HS are all within walking distance in Phx. Later the technical (Phoenix Tech) was added near or next to Phoenix Union. North Hi was located near the Country Club area north of the downtown area and built sometime in the 30's. We lived out of town but NW of downtown Phx. so we could go to any HS. This was just before West Hi was built. The guy who lived across the street from us was a fullback at Phx Union but I went to North Hi. Lots of rich kids at North Hi (parking lot full of cars but I rode a city bus) but our family was low income.
