Since arriving at Oregon after a stint at Alabama, Cristobal has been stockpiling 4/5 star talent. He learned under the tutelage of the master. Cristobal took over as head of Bama recruiting and was one of the best closers in the country. Mario created the same system, including computer based analysis and communications, to Oregon. It’s the Saban Everything gets Listed - Everything Gets Checked system. Saban keeps a football program dashboard and everything better be running in the green.
From a story on Mario Cristobal -
“Cristobal was an elite recruiter at Alabama, finishing No. 1 in the national 247Sports composite rankings in each of his four seasons. He was named the National Recruiter of the Year by 247Sports in the 2015 cycle and in 2016 he was ranked as the nation’s No. 2 recruiter in the country by 247Sports.”
The 2nd thing he learned was that consistent winning starts in the trenches. He has transformed Oregon from a speed/finesse team to a power blocking team.
“Cristobal’s Alabama offensive line was awarded as the nation’s best in 2015, winning the inaugural Joe Moore Award given to the toughest, most physical line in the nation.”
I am not sure how Anderson has ASU recruiting structured, but gaining ground on the top PAC teams means out-recruiting teams that are also improving their recruiting. Oregon and USC have already combined for a total of 17 4/5 star commitments in their 2021 classes. ASU will need to beat its best year of 4/5 star signings to just stay even.
