Players who survive the pandemic must successfully negotiate an obstacle course consisting of piles of cadavers and a gauntlet of unmarked police with shields and cudgels. If they make it through that they will be required to pass a Covid-19 test if they can find one now that drive-through funding is being curtailed. Coaches, on the other hand, will be collected by legions of people-powered Monte Python retrieval carts on Tuesdays and Thursdays and buried along with the rest of the baby boomers. (link) Some may not be quite dead yet. (Note: This is sarcastic humor.) The following is not.

"The Arizona health department reported 3,056 new coronavirus cases and 27 additional deaths Thursday morning.

That brought the state’s documented totals to 63,030 cases and 1,490 deaths. It was the fourth daily report of more than 3,000 cases in the past week.

" . . . For the 10th consecutive day, the number of confirmed or suspected COVID-19 patients checked into Arizona’s hospitals increased Wednesday, jumping overnight to 2,453 from 2,270. That statistic has increased by 47% in the past week and more than 100% since June 8, according to the state’s data." {from KTAR.com)

We are in uncharted waters. One has to ask, what will the numbers look like come September? This is going to be devastating to university budgets. It is tough for the athletes and everyone else. Many difficult decisions are looming.
