I'm very happy with Daniels. He's exceeded my expectations. He's a great person as well - cool and humble. I wouldn't trade him for any of the others.
As far as ASU "allowing" in-state guys to go elsewhere I don't think that is how I would characterize it. We did offer most of those who chose to go elsewhere and Slovis came out of nowhere. Credit Helton for recognizing his latent talent. Helton did miss out on Daniels, however.
Our program has been mediocre at best for many moons (decades) and it's always tough to go against the perennial powerhouses for top talent, especially when you're a mediocre program. Some of these lads just want to expand their horizons by going to a new environment. Is it really very important where our players hail from? It does appear that we are making progress under Herm & AP's regime. Ayiuk is a good example of this.
I just hope this doesn't turn out to be a wasted year for JD. We finally have an ace at QB and now we're dealt the pookie - this bloody pandemic. This virus situation couldn't be exploding at a worse time - just weeks before the new season should be beginning. We're still recovering from the Graham payout and trying to pay for all these new facilities. I'd sure hate to see us loose a year of JD's eligibility on a gap year or an asterisk season. I'm hoping for a miracle. Not betting on it though. Arizona's pandemic numbers per capita are the worst in the nation and it's not even close.
Meanwhile though, we seem to be lining up a lot of long and hefty linemen on both sides of the ball, even though most are from elsewhere. We've all been clamoring for that for a long time. Now it's happening. We're finally balancing our recruiting numbers as well. AP's doing a stellar job of recruiting and defensive coaching. Who would've thought that a former cat would become so important to the resurrection of this long dormant (sleeping giant) program? He could be Herm's eventual successor if we don't lose him beforehand. He seems to like it here. And Herm is a great guy. I love his attitude about everything He has gained a lot of wisdom over the years. I really liked what he said to his players after that regrettable Wataburger incident a few days ago. I've linked the story below for anyone who hasn't already read it.
Going to be 110 - 120 degrees for the foreseeable forecast with no rain in sight. Another nonsoon. The house is like a jail. Maybe I'll take a ride to the rim to have a look at that sensational comet since there are few clouds to interfere . . .
