Further, there is no study--none--showing that herd immunity is possible with COVID-19. Aside from that, do you have any idea how many people would need to get infected if herd immunity was even possible, given that there is no vaccine? Hint: we wouldn't be close even if we had opened up completely. We have nearly 3.7 reported cases. Let's say that actual numbers are 20x that (generous in my opinion). That means 74 million cases overall. We'd still need something 2.5x to 3x that number even if herd immunity was possible. Even if the mortality rate is .005%, that's 1MM+ dead.
Last, but not least, the virus itself is causing the economic downturn. People aren't going out like they were and wouldn't be doing it even everything was open way back when. What's happening now is simply creating a longer, deeper recession because the virus is out of control.
