Great post. It brings back found memories. I loved those evap coolers in early summer when the humidity was low. It was a different world back then. Twelve years old and Mom and Dad never worried about me or my kid sister. By monsoon season we would collect enough pop bottles to ride the bus to the downtown Fox or Paramount theaters and would freeze our butts off in air conditioned comfort watching the same movie all day.
We lived on the West edge of town. The kids spent most of our summer time in the canals and giant windbreak trees between the cotton and melon fields. It was fun to get there at dawn to wave to the crop duster pilots - then play in a cloud of DDT all day. No mosquitoes to worry about.
BTW, how is your shoulder?
