The Crazy Cajun Steven Cochran had been SabanÕs Strength and Conditioning coach since Saban arrived in Alabama in 2007. Cochran is a legend in the SEC after building the Bama players into iron men. But it seems that Saban thinks that the Tide must take it to another level to get back into championship contention. Cochran is out and has been replaced by David Ballou and Dr. Matt Rhea. They will work out of the new state-of-the-art Alabama Sports Science Center. The goal is to apply new technology to increase players strength, endurance and durability beyond what Cochran was able to achieve. Cochran wanted to get into the coaching side of the business and this was probable the longest a strong-willed person had ever survived under Saban.
Cochran was quickly snapped up by Georgia as a special teams coach. This might prove interesting. Many Alabama players have stated that Saban is indeed the Commander in Chief, but the Crazy Cajun was the Keeper of the Flame and in many ways the heart of the team. Will science win for Saban - or will CochranÕs inspiration elevate Georgia.
All I know is Cochran turned out some pretty awesome looking linemen like 360 lbs Evan Neal.
