Utah is very conservative (1 PAC school), but all the PAC 8 states are somewhat liberal (8 PAC schools), and all of the CA schools are near more liberal parts of CA, LA & SF.
CO leans a little left. I think AZ still leans a little right, but CO & AZ (2.5 PAC schools) are closer to center than all of the others in the PAC I think.
In the conference that can't add, IL is clearly a liberal state (2 schools), as is MD (1 school), and NJ (1 school), but I think all of the others lean right or are closer to center to the extent this is a factor in the play or not play decision. I'd have counted PA as left leaning but the last election proved they are closer to center.
Of the conferences that are playing, the SEC & B12 definitely lean right. The ACC is more diverse, with several right, several left, and several swing states.
Of the above, the PAC region leans the most left for sure. It will be interesting to see if the PAC winds up being the lone P5 conference to sit out the season.
