Since March, I have been having to use a knee scooter to get around. The things are not the most stable of critters and I have had several falls some quite hard and a couple where I partially landed on the end of the stump.
This has cause a quarter-sized wound to open on my incision line and has prevented me from moving on to my prosthesis. The last fall really was not my fault as the carriage bolt (3/4" steel) that served as the left rear ankle sheared off at the threads. The scooter was built to handle my weight so I don't know what the problem was.
My orthopedist referred me to a plastic surgeon to perform the surgery to close the wound and the plastic surgeon is going to do a revision on the amputation surgery, taking a slight bit of bone to free up some skin to stretch over the wound and then it is off to a rehab center for several weeks unless I can convince him otherwise.
Since the knee scooter broke, I have been using a much more stable electric collapsible travel scooter. That may be sufficient to convince the Doc that I don't need to go to rehab. I do have a great one lined up, tho'. I have used Friendship Village before but they are not accepting new patients at this time.
Hopefully this will be the last surgery and I will be able to move on to a prosthesis and get back to doing things other than just sit on my ample butt.
