My dad played football at Phoenix College - his coach was "Dutch" Hoy. The FB field at PC is named in Coach Hoy's honor. My dad played FB at Phoenix Union and then at PC for two years. He and another well known Phoenix player, Tom Rippey, went on to play at "COP" (College of the Pacific). It is now known as University of the Pacific. Dad's coach at COP was none other than Amos Alonzo Stagg, one of the pioneers of football.
One Saturday back in the 80's, ASU was playing University of the Pacific. We were at Tempe Mission Palms for a few pre game drinks; I went over to where the UP fans were having their pre game drinks and told them that my dad, who was in the next room, played football at COP under Coach Stagg. Then before I knew it they went over and got dad to come over to their pre game event. That led to a ten year reunion of sorts with the UoP Letterman's Club. Dad and his second wife, Liz, traveled with those guys and had a great time each year.
