The pass to Hodges was on an 11 yard passing situation to a tight end that had only 1 TD and and a handful of catches in his entire 4 year career. Prior to that catch, Hodges had only 24 receiving yards for the season. I find it hard to apologize for a pass to a possession receiver left so uncovered that he was able to rumble 74 yards without being tackled. You can’t expect the kid to take a knee.
On White’s TD, the Cats had everybody packed inside. It is possible that Daniels changed the play called by Hill with a kill play to go outside once he saw the stack inside. In any case, it was not a gadget or trick play. It was just a well blocked edge play. But yes, it resulted in an unnecessary TD.
