That is me smiling. Bethea is just a piece of the puzzle as ASU converts to a bigger, longer line and hopefully more NFL style gap blocking schemes. Big Boy football.
Christensen was a solid O-line coach. His background in spread offense zone blocking made him the right man for ASU with its smallish linemen. But his retirement is another step in the conversion to more of a power blocking game. I expect Edwards to select a replacement with NFL line coaching experience. If the guy sitting in the football office wearing a HOF jacket does not want the job, here is a long shot - Scott Peters.
Peters was a journeyman lineman in the NFL for 7 years, then got into participating and coaching martial arts. The Cleveland Browns hired Peters as an assistant to Bill Callahan to coach the line. Callahan has a reputation as one of the best NFL line coaches. Peters adds new technique focused on the violent hands and balance needed for todayís blocking rules.
Maybe 42 year old Peters could bring Sun Devil DNA, NFL experience and credentials as a member of the Bill Callahan coaching tree to the recruiting activity. At 42, he is at an age where he can relate to both the players and their parents.
