Yes, Byron Evans grew up dreaming of being a Sun Devil. Many local kids (back in the 1970's & 80's) felt that way. Sun Devil Stadium was the place to be on Saturday nights in Tempe, Arizona. Kids from all around Arizona wanted to be a part of that experience.

Byron Evans grew up in South Phoenix. He went to South Mountain High School. He only weighed about 190 pounds in high school. ASU was pretty loaded at linebacker back in the early 1980's, when Evans was in high school. Therefore, ASU did not recruit him because they figured he wouldn't be able to play for them.

Obviously, it was a mistake by ASU. However, I don't think Byron Evans was recruited by many Pac-10 schools. In fact, Arizona might have been the only one. So, ASU was not the only school to make that recruiting mistake. Byron Evans went on to be a thorn in ASU's side, as well as many other Pac-10 schools. He also had a very good career in the NFL for the Philadelphia Eagles. Go Sun Devils!
