I'm optimistic because I read players' comments about sticking together for another year because of team camaraderie and a common goal to go out as big winners. I'm also optimistic because I see Edwards finally focusing ASU recruiting on signing the proper body types for each position as well as balancing the roster by year and position. As I have stated before, the team may be a center (I still think that should be West.) , an LB and a backup QB away from a Rose Bowl. And I'm betting that those missing pieces are on the roster waiting to be called upon.
BUT has ASU improved enough to overtake the PAC elite that seems to get stronger every year? From 2018 through 2021 Oregon has signed a whopping 48 4-star and 4 5-star players. USC is not far behind signing 38 and 5. Luckily many of these signings are prima donnas that run for the Transfer Portal if they are not named starters. But the fact remains, these teams have the size, speed and skill sets that Edwards is just now adding to the Sun Devils. I'm still betting that this ASU squad will have the crafty QB and and heart of the 1996 team. If an inspirational "Tillman" emerges we can start booking our Rose Bowl reservations early.
