Always enjoy reading your posts, SD. Agree with you (to some extent) on BYU, but then you will agree with me that many, if not most, of the bracketing numbers are equally "screwy".
Consider the following games just played:
Ohio (13) beats Virginia (4) by 4 points
Oral Roberts (15) beats Ohio State (2) by 3 points
Syracuse (11) beats San Diego State (6) by 16 points
North Texas (13) beats Purdue (4) by 9 points
Oregon State (12) beats Texas (5) by 14 points
Here are the things that most effect outcomes in a "one and out" tournament (imho):
1) Parity - - - more really good players than in years past
2) Who's hot and who's not. Many teams have gotten better as the season progressed and are in a zone.
3) Over confidence. Some team play to the leverl of their competition.
4) Miss a shot here and there and a 4 point win becomes a 4 point loss.
I would much rather see a 16 game tournament with a "2 game loss and out".
Our whole family (all 33 of us) fill out our brackets each of the last 4 years. Our 22 year old granddaughter was the only one of us to pick Ohio to beat Virginia. She thought she was picking Ohio State 😂.
