Does it surprise anyone that the conference allotments for March Madness are based on participation and performance incentives? Probably not. But if that is the case, shouldn't the conferences have equal odds to get their very best teams to the Final Four and Championship game. Is anyone surprised when you check the opportunity and see that the PAC-12 was severely disadvantaged by the selection committee. I decided to look at this when USC and Oregon ended up in a Sweet 16 matchup and this is what I found for the very best teams in each conference (bracket is designated by a letter abbreviation and seed is the number):

Michigan E-1 FSU E-4 Baylor S-1 Alabama E-2
Illinois MW-1 Virg.W-4 W.Virg.MW-3 ArkansasS-3
Ohio St. S-2 ClmsnMW-7 Texas E-3 Tenn MW-5
Iowa W-2 UNC S-8 Kansas W-3 LSU E-8
Purdue S-4 GaTchMW-9 Ok St. MW-4 MissouriW-9

Colorado E-5 Villanova S-5
USC W-6 Creighton W-5
Oregon W-7 UConn E-7
UCLA E-11 GeorgetownE-12
OregonSt MW-12

If you can't see my point, let me enlighten you to how the seeding works to get to the Final Four. Basically how this is set up above, the Big 10, ACC, Big 12 and SEC all have the opportunity to get four of their five top teams into the Final Four. The best the PAC-12 can do is get 3 of its 5 teams into the Final Four and that is only if Oregon State remains a Cinderella for the next two games (not strongly expected). The Big East also may have a little bit of a beef as only 3 of its 4 teams can make it to a Final Four. Anyway, while our lame-duck commissioner Scott counts his buy-out money, the PAC-12 continues to get screwed by the rest of the conferences in equitable pay out through poorly negotiated contracts and questionable seeding committees. I keep hearing everyone say "well at least we will have one Elite Eight team", when we probably should be stating that "we could have had four Final Four teams if the selection committee had just done their job legitimately for all the Power 5 conferences". The Power 5 continues to look like the Power 4 and the little sister!
