Totally agree. Under Smith I saw very talented players give games away. I saw game management give games away. At the P5 level, all teams have an abundance of talent. It is often the subtle nuances and fundamentals that decide close games. Sometime it shows up in the game stats and sometimes it does not.
In this regional action:
* Three botched rundowns. By the 3rd one, it was obvious that teams were baiting ASU into making mental errors.
* A wild pitch ricocheted off the backstop and rolled back to toward the catcher. The catcher watched the runner from 3rd base score because the pitcher failed to cover the plate.
* A dribbler pulls the first baseman off base to field the ball. Nobody covered first.
Imagine the reaction these plays would have generated from Brock or Murphy. Then again, these types of lapses seldom happened under Brock or Murphy.
