Chaos is right. Once a credible allegation is released to the media, there is no restraint on their reporting any rumors that arise. Here is an example:
Several sources in the Pac-12 told ESPN that ASU also faces allegations about recruiting practices that occurred when the dead period ended, including possible improper contact with prospects at an off-campus recruiting camp earlier this month.
A lot of these unsubstantiated rumors will never be proven but will never see a formal retraction from the news sources. And just the weight of countless allegations will cause the NCAA to investigate Institutional Control.
