In the last few years I have adjusted my thinking about NIL. It is not difficult to see how/ why young athletes should be able to benefit from their money making ability for schools/ conferences and advertisers. How about some scheme to put money away until graduation or at least completion of junior year. There should be some way for a win/ win given that schools made the first commitment through recruiting and scholarships. As for NIL benefits before college commitment, well, that is solvable, but likely not fair to the athlete. But getting involved in big money deals and trying to skip college should seemingly have negative impact on entry into the pro leagues.
As for the the transfer portal...hmmm seems like a quick exit strategy for disgruntled or unhappy players. But mix that with NIL and it becomes problematic. Not sure how to fix the...yet.
Conference power struggles have probably always been there. They are more transparent these days (of nasty politics).
