The slant 6 was designed for the military power wagon and field repair. I had one in a 67 Belvedere and in the Dart. I changed starter motors, fuel pumps, alternators and water pumps, belts and hoses without ever having to jack up the car. The slant 6 had a very long stroke and it indeed sounded like a death rattle until the engine warmed up. The motor was indestructible. During one cold rain I broke a fan belt commuting from Santa Barbara Research Center to Lompoc. I rode 40 miles to home on the battery and no water pump. The car never overheated. That big exposed engine block acted like a cooling fin.
The Duster had a 318 and would really fly.
