I agree with you. My main concerns are ASU continues to start games slow. Southern Utah was due to penalties, and UNLV was mainly due to an interception that was thrown on first down, from just inside the 10 yard line, on ASU's first drive of the game. At first, I was upset at Daniels for throwing the pick, but after looking at the replay of it, the receiver might have gone outside, when Jayden was expecting him to go inside. Only they, and the team know who screwed that up, but you can't be turning the ball over in the red zone, especially on first down. If the receivers covered, then throw it away.
This team NEEDS Chip Traynaum to be healthy and playing. Traynaum and White give ASU that thunder and lightning running game that really wears down a defense. Without Traynaum, UNLV was able to hang in this game until the 4th quarter. Had Traynaum been healthy, I think the game is over at halftime, or early in the third quarter.
The junior varsity part of the schedule is over with for ASU. They now start playing varsity teams (BYU plus the Pac-12 schedule). ASU needs to start playing 60 minutes of football, or they will have more disappointing losses like they had last year to USC, and UCLA, when they only played for 57 minutes of the game.
I also agree with you on Jayden Daniels. I like that he will sometimes scramble for a first down, but he needs to get down/ slide and avoid hits. This team cannot afford to lose him to injury. Back up quarterback is a BIG question mark. I don't mind him running, but he needs to avoid getting hit by defenders for a couple of extra yards.
BYU will bring it on Saturday night. ASU needs to be ready for a physical game for four quarters. We will find out what kind of team we have this weekend. First road game, first real good opponent. It's time for ASU to put up, or shut up. It's the Sun Devils prove it game! Go Sun Devils!
