The March '08 issue of ASU Magazine, which I receive as an alumni, illustrates extremely well some of the history of our rivalry with the unwashed. This being The Arizona State University's 50th year as a university the magazine illustrates how our southern rivals tried their damned best to keep us from gaining university status.
When I let my buddies here in Cincinnati peruse this issue they finally grasped just how heated - and WHY - the rivalry is.
Having lived in the south (Memphis), the southeast (North Carolina), the north (Minnesota/Wisconsin), the central (Ohio) and heaven (TEMPE) I can tell you that our rivalry may not have the recognition of the OSU/um rivalry, or the pageantry of the Alabama/Auburn rivalry, or the history of Army/Navy...but there is not a more HEATED rivalry where this is pure hatred between the parties as there is The Arizona State University/uOFeh rivalry. And I wouldn't change a thing!
