Well,just got back from Calif went over there to watch the Judi Garman Classic and spend some time with relatives.
Softball team went 4-1 in Fullerton beating Michigan 2-0 in the opening game of the Judi Garman Classic.Bre pitched a 5 hit 8 inning shutout with Amber Freeman winning the game with a 2 run HR.
ASU had wins over Cal St Fullerton, Baylor & San Jose St, losing the final to Auburn 7-4. Auburn game started around 9:30 pm Saturday didn't end until close to midnight,it was a wild game with ASU scoring 4 runs in the top of the 1st.Auburn won the game with a grand slam HR in the 5th,that HR went right over the left field pole could have been called fair or foul but with all the calls going against ASU that night it was called fair!
It was a tough game to lose,I think the girls kind of got rattled with some of the calls in key situations going against them, certainly the ASU fans in the stands were upset with the Umps and vented their frustrations at the Umps!Reminded me of the football game at Wisconsin a few years back that I went to see, the one that we got hosed by the refs.Well, this game Saturday was much the same way, got hosed by the umps!
Judi Garman Classic ended the nonconference part of the schedule.ASU opens the Pac 12 conference schedule at Washington Fri.ASU played a tough nonconference schedule and their record reflects that 19-8 with most of their losses coming against top 20 teams.I feel the team is starting to come around, pitching has improved and the hitting while we're still leaving too many runners on base is improving!
ASU has to play good in the PAC 12 win games on the road and at home,we'll see how they do but I'm optimistic that they will do good, they're really playing better than they were early in the season.
ASU got some really good news the other day regarding recruiting, Skylar McCarty signed with ASU and will be eligible to play next season.Skylar originally signed with Washington but for whatever reasons she did not qualify at UDub and ended up at ASU.Skylar plays in the outfield and is a big time player who will really help ASU next season.ASU loses 2 starters from the outfield so there will be a need in the outfield next year.
