Lately there have been lots of people talking about how bad Jayden Daniels has been playing. Blame is put on him and the OC and QB coach, some of which is deserved all around, but why is nobody pointing out that a passing game has two parts, the guy that throws and the guys that catch?
Herm's "4-star" receiving corps seems to be doing virtually nothing, all season. Aside from a few standout moments, we just have a collection of guys that can't get open and can't catch the ball when they are. When comparisons are made to 2019 when a young freshman QB showed such promise, he had Brandon Aiyuk and Frank Darby to throw to, which makes a big difference.
Whatever happens coach-wise in the next week or so, hopefully changes can be made to either stop recruiting "stars" in exchange for football players, or we get someone who can teach players to catch. Jayden will still need someone to throw to next year no matter what.
