I sometimes feel people are losing sight of how much talent Hurley has amassed at ASU over the last few years. When you include Cheatham as a grad transfer we have seven 4* players on our roster last year (Dort, Cherry, Lawrence, White, Martin, Valtonen, and Cheatham). This year we have 6 (Cherry, Lawrence, White, Martin, Valtonen, and House). And these are just the high school kids. Verge and Thomas were highly sought after JC transfers.
This is the most talent we have had since Wulk's teams in the early 80's. Yet we can barely make the tournament? And this year can't even crack the top 25 (and frankly don't deserve to).
I think it is fair to question whether Hurley's coaching chops are ever going to match his recruiting chops. One thing is certain, if the results don't change, the recruiting likely will. You don't get recruits to come to a school that consistently underachieves.
